TDC Approves MDP Contract

August 7, 2008 – The Torrington Development Corporation (TDC) is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors voted to enter into a contract with Milone & MacBroom to complete the Downtown Torrington Municipal Development Plan (MDP). The contract will be signed by TDC President, Vic Muschell, contingent upon final approval by the State Attorney General’s office.

Upon its completion, the MDP will serve as an ordinance to guide all future development within the Downtown district.

Milone & MacBroom has already completed the first phase of the MDP, including data collection and base mapping, analysis of existing conditions, and an updated market analysis.

The remaining tasks to be completed, in accordance with State Statues, include: review of historic building layouts; proposed land use and improvements; budgetary appraisals; project administrative plan; MDP document preparation, and public hearings. The work is to be funded with a grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD).

Once a draft MDP is developed, there will be public meetings and hearings, followed by a formal review process by the TDC, Planning & Zoning Commission, Regional Planning Agency, City Council, and State of Connecticut.

Milone & MacBroom has experience in the preparation of MDP's and the planning and design of urban redevelopment projects throughout Connecticut, including Fort Trumbull and Sate Pier in New London, Parkville-Picture It Better and the Colt Gateway projects in Hartford, and the HUB project in Meriden.
